A Mother’s Plea

An overview of Mexico City.

Recently, we received a call from a distraught mom who had heard about our ministry after we preached at her church. This woman emigrated from Mexico to the United States to financially support her family in Mexico. While adapting to a new country, she started feeling concerned for her son living in Mexico City. Her concern deepened daily as she witnessed her son slipping further into despair. The once vibrant young man is now dealing with a profound loneliness that consumes him.

The source of her son's problems is a haunting addiction that has taken root in his life – a dark desire that leads him to spend his mother's hard-earned money on prostitutes. Unfortunately, prostitution is legal in Mexico City, making it an accessible temptation for him. This self-destructive behavior drains his finances and empties him of joy. This mother knows that her son desperately needs help, and that help can only be found in Jesus.

This story embodies the parable of the prodigal son squandering his resources and falling into a life leading to despair. However, the story of the prodigal son is not just about the prodigal son. It shows us a father who cares deeply, but also an indifferent elder brother. In Luke 15, the elder brother should have rescued his younger brother, but he didn't. He refused to spend his portion of the inheritance to reach his lost brother. Yet, the life of Jesus is an example of what a true elder brother does. Jesus left the comfort of heaven to rescue us. It is why we celebrate Christmas: Jesus's descent to earth to come for lost younger siblings – you and me.

We're answering the call to move to Mexico City as missionaries to be the kind of elder brother that Jesus exemplified for us; one that comes and restores lost younger siblings by pointing them to a loving father. We want to be in Mexico City as soon as possible because people are hurting and slipping into eternity every day. Although we are trying to connect this man to a believer in the city, for this mom's plea, we could not be there soon enough. Will you consider helping us reach our financial goal so we can minister to those younger siblings who need Jesus?
